about the NGO
The Neuro Project is an NGO that provides advocacy and support to people with neurological disorders and their care-takers through fundraisers, blog posts, and literature reviews. Our team is committed to making a positive impact by creating a community of empathy and understanding through worldwide connections via our communal setting.
Project Neuro Inc is a nonprofit organization comprised of medical volunteers and undergraduate students who all aspire to become physicians. Together, we seek to shed light and advocate for those experiencing neurological disorders with an emphasis on their caretakers through public education, engagement, and advocacy.
Neurological diseases are detrimental and stressful for patients due to their progressive nature impacting daily functioning, and uncertainty around their prognosis. Many neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis (MS), ALS, and Alzheimer’s, progressively impair mobility, speech, cognition, and self-care abilities. In an effort to advocate for those who don’t have a solid platform, caregivers of individuals with these types of diseases experience a higher rate of anxiety, depression, and burnout. Studies have shown higher levels of cortisol and inflammatory markers, linking chronic stress in caregivers to long-term health risks.
Preventative medicine research, or how we like to call it, “Modern Medicine”, indicates that there is research suggesting caregivers of neurological disease patients may be at a higher risk of developing neurological and psychological conditions themselves. Although this is emerging research it is important to highlight the trends as it evolves.
Given the challenges associated with caretaking, Project Neuro is committed to deepening our understanding of both patients and caregivers within our communities. Our goal is to alleviate stress by providing educational support systems, including interactive blogs where patients and caregivers can connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. Through these resources, we aim to help individuals navigate daily challenges while promoting strategies to prevent long-term complications.
Our Story
Hamzeh and Hisham, two high school friends, have always shared a deep commitment to helping others. Their passion led them to pursue careers in the medical field—a path demanding years of hard work, dedication, and relentless studying. Yet, beyond their academic journey, they found themselves drawn to a greater purpose: supporting those in need.
On July 17, 2024, the two friends sat on a balcony, grappling with the harsh realities of neurological disease, and the caretakers for those affected. Hamzeh, who had lost his grandfather after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, was there to support Hisham as he faced his uncle’s recent Parkinson’s diagnosis. They understood, firsthand, the emotional and physical toll that neurological disorders impose—not only on patients but on the families who care for them.
Adjusting to a loved one’s declining neurological health is a profound challenge, requiring immense patience and resilience. For families, witnessing these changes can be heartbreaking, as familiar relationships and routines shift. For those diagnosed, the struggle to adapt while holding onto their sense of identity and quality of life is equally daunting. Hamzeh and Hisham recognized the incredible strength it takes for both patients and caregivers to navigate this journey.
What began as a conversation between two friends trying to support each other quickly evolved into something much bigger. They envisioned a platform dedicated to raising awareness, providing resources, and offering financial assistance to those unable to access the best possible care. Most importantly, they wanted to create a space where people could connect, share their stories, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.
Thus, Project Neuro was born—a mission rooted in education and community fueled by compassion, understanding, and the unwavering belief that no one should face neurological disease alone.
